2010!

Have not been faithful in keeping the blog updated. This year’s resolution is to keep faithful with my journal. A way to remember daily lessons in life. A year to get my inner life organised and remained in the Vine… to be fruitful.

Removed the mole that my mom has been pestering about. I did it on 29 Dec 2009 in 美丽园 in Katong Shopping Centre. There is a burnt mark on my now.

Went to buy drinks as usual on 3 Jan 2010 on Sunday morning. The 老板娘 in 东亚(Keong Saik Rd) thought I burnt myself playing fireworks on New Year’s Day! What a candid remark.

School started for the children in Z-Campus. Rained heavily early in the morning while they were leaving for school!

Catching up…

Met Rum yesterday. It was a brief catch up session as I had another meeting to go and lost some time looking for a motorbike parking around Bras Basah Complex.

Had an interesting exchange with her. She said I loose some weight or perhaps the shirt I was wearing was too big. Then I told that the clothes she had on was a little small….

Talent Academy @SOTA

Mar 16
Took a day leave from work to bring Lydia to the Talent Academy at SOTA.

Met Wan Ting there as they are going to visit some museum.

Met Shirley there too. Wan Yi is auditioning for the Dance.

It was good opportunity for Mey & I to have spent half a day with Shirley. We “toured” a small part of Katong. Visited the Peranakan place.

Disney on Ice

We were given some complimentary tickets to Disney on Ice (Princesses) on 14 Mar at the Indoor stadium.

We went there with very little expectation. We thought it would be kiddy kind of show. We were pleasantly surprised; the show was well done.

As usual there was superb skating; the performers were very skilled and graceful.

What was surprising was the acrobat show during the “Little Mermaid” session. The sailors did stunts on spring boards! Great performance.

The dragon in “Sleeping Beauty” session was also very impressive. They had fire on ice! Very well done but thought that it will be too frightening for smaller kids.

The finale was also wonderful with mini fire works from the “Pumpkin” chariot of “Cinderella”

Another surprise is the price of stuffs at the show! SGD$6.00 for a small pack of POPCORNS!

Wisdom from above…

Sun Mar 1
MK sought counsel from Mey & I regarding the problem she is facing. It is refreshing to work with Mey in such circumstance and perhaps the start of things to come…

God indeed has mysterious way of safe guarding His loved ones if we chose to obey His prompting. This is so that we will not get hurt or deceived along the way.

Teaching English as a Foreign Language

Yippee..finally completed my course with the practicum on 20 Feb!!

Today was a busy day. Breakfast at the 小红楼at chin bee with the PNG officials. Had a meeting at MFA at 10am. Then proceeded to Bugis Junction. Spent about 2hrs Jalan Jalan because the next appoint with IE is at 2pm. Had lunch at Wong Wok or Wok Wong (can’t remember well) before our meeting with IE. It is a fusion food place with asian and western food menu. Price is reasonable. Biz also rather good at lunch.

Went back to office about 4:30pm. Cleared some Email then prepared for my practicum. I started to butterflies in my stomach as I felt rather unprepared.

There were 4 mynmar nurses as our “students”,3 guys and a girl. My fellow course mate started 1st and I observed him do the practicum with ease. I became more relax.

When it was my turn, I was a little nervous at the beginning. The mindset was that it was a test and they were not real students. As the lesson progress, the previous mindset changed to thinking I am actually teaching. I became at ease and the lesson went on well. I noticed that the invigilator smiled on a few occassion. In the end, the invigilator commented that I did well.

Thanks to Thida, Latt, Kyaw and Zaw for helping out with the Practicum, Thanks to Jogi for invigilating as well.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Went to movies with my family at the Causeway Point last Friday at 2030hrs.

Interesting story and wonderful way it was filmed.

The story is about Benjamin who was born physically old but cognitively young. He is regular baby size but his skin was all wrinkled and his eyes were almost blind with cataract, coos and cries like a baby. He grew younger in physique. As a boy aged about 10yrs old, he looked like an old man; grey haired and on wheel chair. He grew progressively stronger and looking younger.
At about 70yrs old, he looked like a teen with acne problem but he has dementia. He finally became a regular smooth skin baby but and died in his wife’s arm.

Another interesting thing about this movie is the way the story is related. On her death bed, his wife asked his daughter to read his diary and the story unfolds. His daughter only know who her father was as she was reading through his diary.

Good show…thanks to Susan for the free movie passes for my family.

What is on my mind this week…

While I was preparing the songs for worship this week, I remembered last Sunday’s teaching by KW about the life of Jacob.

Jacob prayed and sought God before he set off from Canaan to Egypt to meet with Joseph. Why did he need to seek God in what seemed like the best thing to do; found his long lost son after so many years and refuge for the long famine ahead? This is how I responded in the past. I will go for what seemed like best without seeking God. Supposedly whatever is good has to be from God. I learned from Jacob’s example to seek God, regardless of the circumstances.

Conversely, I used to think that it is some kind of denial to attribute anything and everything to God especially the bad things. That thinking changed as I was preparing for the worship time this week; it is not denial but an attitude of surrender to the sovereignty of God, knowing that He is in control of everything. When seemingly bad things happen, be it consequential of my own sin or that which God put us through, I can respond positively and pray for God to see us through. When seemingly good things happen, I will remember to pray to seek God for his approval.
